NECROPOLITICS AND CHRISTOFASCISM SOVEREIGNTY, VIOLENCE AND RELIGION IN THE MAINTENANCE OF BOLSONARIST POLITICS
Main Article Content
Abstract
The object of this research is the developments of the current Brazilian politics, starting from the idea of a “power’s tripod” − that consists of sovereignty, violence and religion, which is used for the maintenance of certain dynamics of Brazilian politics. The central actor of this “power’s tripod” would be President Jair Bolsonaro who, as demonstrated in this article, is shaped by the religious instrumentalization effected by the Evangelical
Parliamentary Front. As a theoretical foundation we used the concepts of “Necropolitcs” from Achille Mbembe and “Christfascism”, studied by Fábio Py. We concluded that, beyond Bolsonaro, the instrumentalization of religion and violence presents itself as an ideological project for a portion of Brazilian politicians, aiming to maintain sovereignty and, ultimately, power.
