Abstract

This article aims to present some aspects of Pope Francis' critique of the contemporary world, based on his understanding of migration, as a metaphor for the human existential and religious condition, and as a right of every human being. Leaning on two references: Scannone's concept of the theology of the people and Hinkelammert's discussion of an ethics of coexistence, as opposed to an ethics of death; the latter would characterize contemporary western societies, developed under the logic of liberalism and neoliberalism. In this way, it is intended to demonstrate the potential of Francis' reflection on migration as a component of a religious critique of the neoliberal socioeconomic model.
