A CONSTRUÇÃO DO PENSAMENTO POLÍTICO CONSERVADOR CATÓLICO NO SÉCULO XIX
Abstract
Conservative thinking in the consolidated Catholic Church throughout the nineteenth century was erected as a form of reaction and defence of the Holy See in the face of the confrontations, real and imagined, experienced since the Protestant Reformation, but especially after the French Revolution, a turning point in history. The enormous transformations of the 19th century appeared in the eyes of the papacy and part of the episcopate as a great plot by enemies of the Church, who sought to destroy its spiritual and secular power. Inspired by the reactionary ideology of the secular ultramontane authors, between 1815 and 1870 a conservative doctrine was built in the Holy See, which denied the present time and the historical evolution.
