The Second Vatican Council was the result of a historical and theological process marked by social, political, and economic transformations that impacted the Church's mission. The idea of convening it emerged during the pontificates of Pius XI and Pius XII. The Dogmatic Constitution Dei Verbum, published 60 years ago, stands out for placing Sacred Scripture at the center of the Church's life and clarifying important elements of Divine Revelation. Despite initial tensions, the desire for renewal among most bishops prevailed. With the support of leading theologians, the episcopate presented solid contributions to the document. This text analyzes the historical trajectory and the main debates surrounding Dei Verbum at the Council. The resumption of some elements of the historical process aims to demonstrate that history is a theological locus and that its study contributes to a critical theology capable, therefore, of speaking of God in a meaningful way for women and men in any society.
